On November 15, 2001, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (YMC) will release an
even more competitive 2002 version of the production road racer "TZ250"
used with such success in competition ranging from domestic amateur racing
to the World GP. Adopting new state-of-the-art technologies fed back from
YZR500/250 factory machines throughout its design, this 2002 model boasts
greater overall competitiveness than ever before. As for the "TZ125,"
the currently available model will continue to be sold with its present
specifications. Advance reservation and sale of the TZ250 can be arranged
at Yamaha RSS dealerships throughout the country.

2002 Model Yamaha Road Racer
"TZ250" |
The 2002 TZ250, full of technical
feedback from the YZRs |
<Product Summary> The 2002 model
TZ250 was developed with the goal of nothing less than "realizing
competitive potential equivalent to a factory machine" by increasing its
potential as a production racer especially in the area of handling
stability. During its developments technologies from the YZR factory
machines in the World GP competition were incorporated in many areas
throughout the machine.
In the engine, spec changes in performance
parts led to increases in acceleration performance and stability in the
top-speed range and performance in the low-speed range. On the chassis,
adoption of a new radial-fixing type caliper design for the front brake
has improved braking performance, while changes in the characteristics of
the rear suspension cushioning and other factors have improved handling
stability.
<Main New
Features> - Improved acceleration performance and
top-speed stability with adoption of lightweight piston, etc. While
retaining the same basic format of the liquid-cooled 2-stroke V-twin
engine with sand type crankcase, detail changes have brought performance
to a new level. The combined effects of changes like (1) a newly designed
lightweight piston, (2) new specs for the left-side mounted exhaust pipe
and (3) changes in the ignition characteristics and solenoid duty ratio
characteristics have improved acceleration performance and top-speed
stability.
- Improved low-speed range performance spec changes in
the TMX x carburetor In order to achieve the optimum balance with the
above-mentioned changes, the position of the pilot outlet that becomes the
passage for the air/fuel mixture in the low opening range (completely
closed to 1/8) and other setting changes have improved performance in the
low-speed range while also making setting adjustments easier.
-
New radial-fixing caliper design for the front brake For the front
brake, the same type of radial-fixing design caliper used on the YZR
factory machines has been adopted for the front brake. Because of its
ability to distribute torque concentration during braking, this design
allows better fixing rigidity that contributes to improve braking
stability and controllability. Also, to achieve optimized adjustment
range, the range of brake lever settings has been changed. (Revised master
cylinder assembly)
- Other changes Other improvements include
(1) a change in the front tire size (3.10/4.80-17 to 120/60 R 17), (2) new
steering damper attachment mechanism for better reliability (pin &
clip to pillow ball), (3) revised rear suspension cushion characteristics
and (4) gear ratio changes from 3rd to 6th gear (added variations for 4th
to 6th gears with new transmission).
