I used to have Kevin Murray rebuild my cranks but he's out of the motorcycle business.
Is there anyone who still rebuilds crank?
TZ250 5KE Cranks are still available to buy new but I have a few...

The carbs are Mikuni for sure.
Cable sheath OD is 7.2mm
The threaded portions:
At carb end. 6mm x 0.8mm
At throttle tube end. 6mm x 1.0mm
Bobbin at end of cable that pulls up the slide is a...

Squarebore (98+) TZ125's use Keihin carbs but I thought the rest of the TZ125s and TZ250s use Mikuni carbs. That being said, I have a 2000 TZ250 that I can measure. Could you elaborate on "cable...

Don,
Excellent project.
Some thoughts.
Data logging would be great. As far as I know only RTD Ignitions offers data logging and they only have 512KB I believe. How about adding 2 additional...

Cordless drills are better these days, ie, better batteries. Might be worth a try but I had a NiCad a few years ago that wasn't up to the task so I went cordless. 8A @ 120Vac corded should be...

Gotcha, thanks Vince,

Thanks Vince,
You have a harbor freight 20 ton press correct? Can you get the Swingarm in there to get the linkage bearing on the Swingarm? Is it big enough for most bearings?

Doing some winter maintenance, I found a bad bearing and corresponding bushing in the Swingarm linkage. One of the needles was badly worn and the same spot on its bushing.
I want to replace all 3...

Ok, Motul Tech gear 300 right? That's an NLGI 2 grease. That's what I'm after. If NLGI 2 is the right consistency/ thickness.
Thanks
-
I've been using Lithium Grease, NLGI 2 Grease (and or Mobil 1 synthetic gease) when and where the manual calls for it, mostly in the axles and other places.
I'm finally getting around to checking...

Welcome, we'll be looking out for your posts. Did you just get the TZ recently?

I believe I just saw one on Ebay last week.

If you run leaded fuel, you can / should advance the timing. 2.4 or 2.5mm BTDC should be good. I believe the leaded fuel burns slower, so needs more time to ignite, so the spark needs to happen...

I'll take a look. I sent you a PM.

Hi Eric,
If you don't find any there is a machinist on here that makes removeable clip-ons (with removeable bar ala woodcraft) with the stock angle. He made a set for me. I posted about his awhile...
-
Since you're using unleaded, I would set it to what the manual says, 2.3mm BTDC, for starters.

Hi Steve,
maybe look at the electrical Schematic in the back of the manual and with a Multi-meter, verify that you have electrical continuity in the "spark related" wires, ie from the pickup...

I like that Idea, and have thought of it myself. We could make a spreadsheet maybe? Google Docs, possibly

These cylinders ended up in my hands. Thanks to Neil for a smooth transaction across the pond.
The strong dollar played to my favor this time. But I'm sure it'll be back to 1.40 EU/USD by the time...

Good point Neil.
The 5th Gear OEM gear pictured, is new / unused. And to my eye, it seems to have a shallower undercut angle than the kit gear, but when I put the dogs together, I don't see...

Bruce,
Thanks for your patience, (and I'm sure countless hours of time) and seeing such a complicated project through to fruition.

Thanks Neil, I took out an OEM gear to compare and it looks undercut as well which I hadn't noticed before. The OEM undercut looks like it has less of an angle , but it's hard to judge with the naked...
