Unfortunately no switch back to pressure casting, they all fail if you run a crank for too long. The only differences I remember were extra 6mm bolts in one area to secure the case halves. I have all...

Usually you leave the volumes alone and just jet it for the thinner air.

I have pulled half the gearbox oil in the transmission through the front cylinder on a 4dp due to a bad seal. Bike didn't seize , just smoked a lot. I think you have two separate issues. For what its...

I think they are all the same. The stock 5KE exhausts didn't change all the way through even though ignitions, cylinders and heads did.

Yes, it was 1996 only.
Example pic from google ( not my bike so please dont ask questions).

My 96 had the frame number on a tag riveted to the left side of the cast frame section. I cant remember if it also had the number on the headstock or not but a 97 frame I have only has the headstock...

Try a new battery. Even though your battery may look like it has a good charge it can be toast. Had this many times.

Best place to start is probably a kit loom + PV servo from an earlier model that ran PV. I dont think that Yamaha ever made a CDI to work with the 5KE 2003 onwards PV system but I know that people...

Vince fixed his when it snapped many years ago, apparently its just a simple resistor switch when you pull it apart. Not sure if Vince is still around on the board but maybe contact him? His posts...

Would be helpful if you told us whats in the carbs now and if other than starting if the bike works well? The carbs can be used without a fuel pump but they were designed to work with one. When you...

Your best bet is to get Tony Green to make a set for you. He should have all the details from when he was making copies for the DTR bikes around the same time.
Outside of Japan/USA you didnt see a...

Easiest solution is to refit the choke providing your carbs havent had the circuits bloked. Are you both running fuel pumps? When I had a similar set up on a 5ke, I used to put a few drops of fuel...

Looks like something from a MX bike. I bought a 92 TZ250 that had been converted to run on Kawasaki KX125 pistons- no idea what the logic was behind this though.

You need to run a 3YL crank webs in 3YL cases or machine out some of the case material under the flywheels if you are running a 4DP crank. Unless the cases have been stored for 29 years then the mod...

4DP11 first appeared on the 1996 4TW that had a leaded fuel set up(Ignition/Heads/Carb internals).1997 model was the first of the unleaded bikes(Ignition/Heads/Carb Internals/Slightly different...

Looking for new 5KE SJK kit piston rings (0.75) and also a 91-99 4DP water pump impeller + shaft. The water pump can be used but must be without any corrosion.
PM with details.

Sounds plausible. Its tricky with the reverse cylinders to gauge if there is anything different causing the piston to wear as they always come out looking trashed due to the engine/induction design....
-
If the cylinders are the wrong size just get them replated , thats what i would do. Far better in the long run to have something that you know will work and be reliable. There are probably few people...

These guys have done all the homework on the 4dp piston conversion. http://natsforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1052

Have you looked at using 4dp pistons and getting the heads cut to suit? Ive just compared some 3tc 90 items which i think fit the w/a and they are pretty similar to 4dp which are still available.

I have got to do some work on one of my 5KE's later tonight. I'll check the loom and see if I have missed anything.

I have a spare OWK8 2002 Kit CDI with YEC6 chip which is designed for the guillotine valves. Do you want to swap for your 5KE - 30?
I also have a std 2002 CDI.
I don't recall there being a spare...

The 4DP-21 unit is actually the correct one for your bike. The 4DP-00 is for a 92 model with a totally different set up in terms of pipes, head volumes, cylinders and carbs. I have never heard of one...

I bought one, very good quality/good value for money and practically identical to the genuine Yamaha KIT radiator.

Original post was nearly 4 years ago. Probably best if you email Luca direct.
