I don't recognise that rubber washer at all, so I suspect it's a non-standard part.
Maybe someone put it in somewhere to try to slow the water flow down to make the engine run hotter?
-
Thanks Neil. That shed some light.

I've never seen a TZ frame with a tag. Was it factory fitted?

I use a syringe to measure the cylinder volume. Flat plate and fill through the plug hole.
The result then depends on how you treat the spark plug hole volume. Some quote to the bottom of the...
-
From what I have read, different heads volumes are used for different circuits. Smaller heads volumes for smaller circuits, and bigger volumes for longer circuits to let the engine rev out more...

Here is the parts list for the standard master cylinder. http://yamahaoemparts.com.au/partFinder/fiche/yamaha-parts/1991/tz250/front-master-cylinder#next . It's an in-line master cylinder with remote...

From the Brembo website, the 15RCS is for 4 pistons total - eg. single disc set-up or twin disc floating calipers. So it doesn't look like the right one for you.
17mm is for 30mm pistons. 19RCS is...

The little Trailtech temp guages are great. Very reliable and you can order various fitting kits.
I've used the Koso GP guages on some bikes and they're very good and inexpensive. Tacho/temp etc. ...

You should be OK then. Our limit of 98 dBA at 30m is equivalent to 101 dBA at 15m, or 50', and my bike gets under that. And your limit is 103.
-
At what distance? Our limit here is 95 DBA at 30m ride-by, and one of my TZs has exceeded that limit. The other one is OK.

The specs for the U are:
Oil - 15W
Oil quantity - 359-362cc
Oil level - 105mm

Chokes enrichen the mixture for starting, so if anything you would want to try larger pilot jets rather than smaller ones.
My 4DP has the choke circuits blanked off yet starts really easily, so...

TZ are generally pretty good to leave standing as they are. When they are run, the mist out of the carbies contains oil which coats the parts so tends to preserve them.
However, I see you have a U...

The cylinders I had on my bike were perfect. One was even brand new. I can't remember if it was the brand new one that seized. The seizure marks were pretty severe, covering the whole piston, with...

Definitely a good idea to run it up on the dyno to break it in and check for clearance.
Interesting theory. The crack over to the exhaust port is pretty common and I've run plenty of cylinders...
-
We also need to consider how long the OEM pistons will be available. The early 4DP type leaded pistons are no longer available, so we had to change to the later unleaded pistons. How much longer are...

Hi Brian,
My stock temp gauge only starts reading at 50°C and hadn't started to register on that day. My bike tends to run cool, to the point that I wasn't sure the temp gauge was working as the...

Hi Brian, I've just started using VHM pistons in my '90 TZ250A. My cylinders are 56.00mm, so I get the standard size VHM pistons, which are 55.93mm. This is looser than an OEM piston but is the VHM...

These are the OEM pads available https://www.partzilla.com/product/yamaha/4TW-W0045-10-00
-
I still use the standard Yamaha pads. They've changed the part number so they're harder to find, but they are still available.
-
Good to hear you've got that sorted. gearbox problems can be as bad as electrical gremlins to fix.
I'm planning on heading down for the next Island Classic. I haven't been for quite a few years...

Never tried them. Street compounds are made to work at lower temps and can cook when used on the track. I'd stick to the race compounds.
-
No. I'd use Dunlop TT900GPs for the street. Half the price and more suited to the road.
-
Go the Avons. AM26 90/90x18 for the front, and AM23 110/80x18 for the rear. Get them in the race compound. Expensive tyres but worth it.
-
I'll take them thanks. PM sent.
