Failed Carb Body
a d v e r t i s e m e n t>
Sorry, but I couldn't think of another way to describe it. Can carb body's go bad?
Bought a set of used 92 TZ250 carbs recently and one simply wont work. Changed over all the internals and body's between the different cylinders to identify the problem and its got to be something to do with the body itself. Being a cast part, do they go bad and stop atomizing the fuel? They have been worked on to clean up the initial intake but not bored out.

The fuel doesn't get pulled through the carb, the slide and body are dry albeit there is fuel in the float bowel. Tried float height and another needle valve - no difference The work on the intake looks to be limited to removing all the casting marks, no boring etc. Once i fitted another carb the bike ran on two cylinders fine.

weird!
is the bowl vent clogged? something has to be affecting the pressure difference if the fuel isnt getting pulled up...and its hard to affect the 'negative pressure' side in the venturi / throat (if it hasnt been fettled with, which seems to be the case). that leaves the bowl-side as suspect imo.
just a thought....

Looks like you found the problem for me albeit not the actual cause. Looks like it has the wrong float bowl fitted from a different carb.
Thanks Vince.
