There was a real problem with the pin and bearing when the 5KE first came out in 2000. Several people had pins break at 150 miles up on the banking at Daytona.
Yamaha modified the pin and bearing (micro polished the pin and chamfered the ends of the needle bearings) and that helped resolve the major problem. I will have pins discolor and jam in the pistons (much more so than the older 4TW) by I pretty much just change pins and bearings with Pistons now.
