1989 TZ250 Question
a d v e r t i s e m e n t>
Hi Guys,
I have a 1989 TZ250W that I am having to rebuild because of a seize at Mosport on Sunday.
My question relates to the reed block and intake manifold.
I have the factory manual and the factory parts list.
My machine has an aluminum block, (spacer?), between the intake manifold and the reed block. It does not show up in the manual or the parts list.
Why is it there, do I need it?
This was not the cause of the seize, but I would like to have the engine at factory spec.
Thanks,
Ewan

A reed spacer is used to lower primary compression of the crankcase and in some cases to pull the reedcage out of the stream of mixture from the rear boost port.
The spacer you have is a good thing but if there is a air leak from there, this is what needs addressing.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if it was something added by a previous owner or a factory mod.
I had a coolant leak into the cylinder which washed out all the lubrication on one of the bearings, I need to find the cause of that.

It's either head bolts, unflat head/ barrel surfaces with failed oring or cracked cylinder, most likely around the pv exhaust area. Best of luck finding the culprit
